These simulations and cellular-automaton models were written in NetLogo, a Java-based simulation-development tool that's excellent for building interactive demos and for teaching students the funadamentals of modeling. I wrote most of them as demos for introductory courses in ecology and evolution and for a faculty working group on emergence.

To try the simulations, I recommend that you use the latest version of Mozilla or Microsoft Internet Explorer, but not Apple Safari (which I generally like in other situations). If the simulation behaves erratically or doesn't appear, try using a different browser.
