Round 3, World Series. Carolina 4, Smokey Park 3.

 

Game 1:  Carolina 4, Smokey Park 3.  A 2 run homer by Martin after a Drew double gives Carolina a 2-0 lead.  Betts doubles and Gattis singles him home in the 3rd to make it 2-1.  Asdrubal Cabrera ties it in the 4th with a dinger.  Saunders puts Cohoes in the lead in the 5th with a homer.  Carolina ties it int the bottom of the 5th with a Martin walk and Galvis double.  Then they score the last run of the game on s Miggy homer in the 6th.  Fernandez takes the loss, Maeda the win, Otero the save.

 

Game 2: Carolina 7, Smokey Park 2.  One of the only blowouts in the post season.  Smokey Park starts the scoring with a lead-off walk to Calhoun, a Betts double and a Gattis single. 2-0 Dusters.  Carolina gets 5 hits, including doubles by Longoria and K. Suzuki to plate 5 runs in the 4th off Roark. 5-2 Carolina.  A Young double and Longoria homer in the 5th completes the scoring. 7-2 Carolina. Teheran all the way for the win, Roark the loss.

 

Game 3: Smokey Park 6, Carolina 2.  Fulmer vs. Kluber. A Saunders walk and Gattis homer in the first put Dusters up 2-0.  Cougars score 2 unearned in the 3rd with a Chris Young double. 2-2.  Nothing but zeroes for Carolina after that.  Smokey Park takes 3-2 lead in the 3rd on a Betts walk and Saunders triple.  They add 3 insurance runs in the 7th to put it out of reach. A big double by Betts the key blow.  Fulmer gives up no earned runs and gets the win.  Kluber the loss.

 

Game 4.  Smokey Park 4, Carolina 2.  Maeda vs. Fernandez again.  A 2 run homer by Rajai Davis in the 2nd gives Carolina the early 2-0 lead.  It stays that way all the way until the 8th, when pinch hitter Phillips singles, Calhoun on with a fielder's choice, and a Betts homer!  Tied 2-2.  Bottom of 9th. Asdrubal Cabrera leads off and is on on an error by Barney.  Valbuena smacks a 2 run walk-off homer!  4-2 Smokey Park.  Series tied at 2.

 

Game 5:  Smokey Park 3, Carolina 1.  Teheran vs. Roark.  Back to back doubles by Saunders and Gattis make it 1-0 Smokey Park after 1.  A Miggy Sac Fly plates Teheran in the 3rd. 1-1.  Betts leads off the 3rd for the Dusters. Single, stolen base.  Saunders and Gattis whiff.  Gyorko doesn't, smacking a 2 run homer that completes the scoring. Cougars threaten in the 8th, but Rosales hits into a DP to end it.  Roark the win, Brach the save.  Teheran takes the loss.  Back to Carolina, with Smokey Park up 3 games to 2.

 

Game 6.  Carolina 1, Smokey Park 0.  A game for the ages.  Kluber tossing a no-hitter after pitching 7.  But Cougars have only garnered two singles themselves.  Martin singles with one out, Ichiro singles him to second. Galvis flies out.  Two outs and Kluber up, so Carolina must pinch-hit, despite the no-hitter.  Kang flies out to end the threat.  Jennings in to pitch, and gives up no hits in the 8th or 9th.  Bottom of 9th. Brach in for Fulmer, who left for pinch hitter.  Miggy leads off with single.  Holt comes in to run.  Leon strikes out.  Martin hits walk-off double!  Carolina stays alive, 1-0.  Series tied at 3!  Another game 7!

 

Round 2.  Carolina 4 games to 3 for Cohoes.  All games on chat.

 

Game 1: Cohoes 6, Carolina 1.  Three singles by Gregorius and a homer and 3 rbi by Trout the big blows, as Bumgarner gives up one unearned run and strikes out 12. Maeda the loss.

 

Game 2: Carolina 3, Cohoes 2, 15 innings.  The game that wouldn't end.  Kershaw vs. Teheran.  Homer by Galvis in the 5th makes it 1-0 Carolina.  A 2 run homer by Chris Davis in the 7th makes it 2-1 Cohoes.  Kershaw cruising, but gives up a homer to Miggy in the bottom of the 9th to send it to extras.  Kershaw goes 12 innings, striking out 15!  Cohoes load the bases in the 13th but can't score.  In the bottom of the 15th, Martin singles and steals 2nd, and Galvis doubles him home!  3-2 Carolina win.  Madson the win in relief. Barraclough takes the loss.

 

Game 3. Cohoes 5, Carolina 2.  Series shifts to Cohoes.  A single and steal to lead off the game, followed by a Longoria homer, gives Carolina an early lead, and completes their scoring.  Cohoes score 5 unearned runs with only one hit in the 7th for all their scoring.  The one hit was a Grand Slam by Lamb!  Melancon the win, Hunter the save. Kluber a tough loss.

 

Game 4. Carolina 3, Cohoes 1. Maeda vs. Bumgarner again.  Davis leads off the game with a double, and Chris Young hits 2 run homer.  Martin homers in the 2nd to put Carolina up 3-0. A Trout walk and Lamb triple give Cohoes their run in the 6th.  Maeda the win, Otero the save, Bumgarner the loss.  Series tied 2-2

 

Game 5:  Carolina 1, Cohoes 0. Complete game shutout for Teheran.  A Martin home run off Kershaw the only run of the game.  As Matt says, even an AZZ pitcher cannot stop a homer!  Series back to Carolina, who have a 3-2 lead.

 

Game 6:  Cohoes 5, Carolina 3.  A wild game, as Cohoes strike early and Cougars come back late, but not enough.  Trout a leadoff walk. Lamb singles and Davis triples them both home for 2-0 lead.  A Trout homer in the 5th, followed by a Kendrick triple and Lamb single, makes it 4-0.  5-0 after Kendrick homer in the 7th.  Carolina gets 2 in the bottom of the 7th on 2 walks, a double by Leon and single by Ichiro.  A Leon homer off Casilla to lead off the 9th gets Carolina closer, but he strikes out Martin and Galvis to end the game and earn the save.  DeSclafani the win, Kluber the loss.

 

Game 7: Carolina 2, Cohoes 1. This one for all the marbles.  Bumgarner vs. Maeda again.  Adam Jones homers to give Cohoes a 1-0 lead in the 2nd.  A double by Kurt Suzuki followed by a triple by Ichiro in the 4th ties it up.  An rbi single by Longoria in the 7th gives Carolina the lead.  He drove in Holt who was pinch running for Kang, who pinch hit for Maeda.  Cohoes do not threaten in the 8th or 9th against Jennings and Otero, who got the save. Thornburg the win.  Bumgarner the tough loss.

 

Another 7-game win, and on to the World Series against Smokey Park!

 

Round 1 vs. Millstone.  Carolina 4, Millstone 3.

 

Game 1: Millstone 1, Carolina 0, 12 innings. Millstone got two hits in this one. A single in the 5th and walk-off double by Big Papi in the 12th! A real pitcher's duel between Maeda and Price.

 

Game 2: Carolina 3, Millstone 0.  An rbi single and a 2 run homer by Galvis accounted for all the runs.  Teheran a 3 hit shutout.

 

Game 3: Carolina 7, Millstone 4.  Homers galore in this game.  Leon, Miggy and Drew go deep for Cougars.  Big Papi a 3 run bomb for Millstone.  Waterboys make it interesting in the 9th, but Otero hangs on for the save.

 

Game 4: Millstone 2, Carolina 1. A 2 run double by Tulowitzki and a Miggy homer the only runs in this one, as Millstone ties up the series.  Price struck out 9 and Colome shut down the Cougars for the save.  

 

Game 5:  Millstone 1, Carolina 0.  Arrieta a complete game 6 hit shutout, striking out 9. He also scored the only run of the game after his 8th inning triple and an 11-5 double by Pedroia.  3 shutouts in the first 5 games, 2 by Millstone 1-0!

 

Game 6: Carolina 6, Millstone 5. Series shifts back to Millstone.  A single and steal by Davis to lead off the game, and an rbi by Longoria give Carolina 1-0 lead.  It goes to 2-0 on a Rosales homer.  A double by Peraza and a single by Pedroia tie it at 2 in the 3rd.  Another Peraza double in the 5th drives in two more. In the 6th a Cabrera double, Leon single and Martin homer give Carolina a 5-4 lead. Miggy a homer in the 8th for some insurance and it was needed.  Pederson singled, stole second and scored on a Markakis single, but Otero squelched the threat.  

 

Game 7: Carolina 2, Millstone 0.  A complete game shutout by Maeda, although Millstone had plenty of chances.  Longoria singled and Miggy homered in the 4th for the only 2 runs of the game.  Price a tough loss.  Big Papi's last game for Millstone.
